” The Aim of Art is to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inward significance” Aristotle

I look to my studio practice as a place of solace and calm. I begin this 2024 new year with the urge to leave open spaces in my work and I also found myself eager to explore a more personal approach to my work and turned to family history as a catalyst. My great uncle Arthur and many of his amazing life stories became the focus of a new series. Following that I was drawn to using more collage based on nature’s garden and the plants I find surrounding my studio.
I feel hope each day and maintain balance moving foward knowing that the several years of sheltering presented many unexpected gifts including deeper evolution in my paintings. I am noticing more of a meditative quality to my time in the studio which I find is expressed in my current work.
